If your tablet does not have a lock screen password, you will be prompted to set one up. This is to keep your child from accessing your account to bypass parental controls. Tap Set Password. Select whether you would like to use a PIN or a Password, then type in your desired choice. Confirm your PIN or password by typing it in again, then tap Finish. Once your password has been selected, you'll be asked to name your child profile.
Select the child's gender and fill in their birthdate. You can choose to use either FreeTime or Teen Profiles for your new child profile. One of the two will be pre-selected based on your child's date of birth. Each one has a different set of default restrictions in place. Tap Add Profile once you've made your selection. On the following screen, you can choose to share content from your own collection to the new child profile.
There are several tabs where available content can be viewed from. The first tab is labeled Kid Friendly. This is the Amazon content you already own that is designated as being appropriate for children. You can tap Add All Kids' Titles or select individual titles. Tap Done when you're finished.
Amazon FreeTime Unlimited is an optional paid monthly subscription service for Amazon FreeTime that offers thousands of content titles for children ages three to twelve years old. You will be prompted to begin a free trial. To Edit Settings on a Child Profile Swipe down from the top of the screen to reveal the notification bar, then tap Settings. Select the child profile you wish to edit. Daily Goals can be set for your child to meet each day. Instead of using simple parental controls, we recommend creating Child Profiles.
You can create multiple profiles to be used across devices and get some help from Amazon restricting content. This will block your child from accessing your profile or the parental controls menu. When you want to select a profile, swipe down from the top of the screen and tap the correct profile icon.
You have now restricted access to certain apps and choose the content you want your kids to be able to use. Amazon FreeTime blocks content purchases and in-app purchases by default. It also disables location-based services and social sharing, and it locks the tablet to landscape orientation.
For example, some parents might be happy to allow unlimited reading but want to restrict apps and games to half an hour per day.
